The backlit graphics in avionics cockpit displays are usually made with "light guide plates." The brightness of the backlight pattern of the light guide plate must be very uniform. To achieve this uniformity, it is necessary to "homogenize" before completing the opaque coating of the light guide plate. Homogenization requires adding a layer of white paint to areas that are too bright until all areas of interest are within the desired brightness range. The real-time visual feedback in the light guide homogenization kit provides the operator with customizable color tips: by default, the red area is too bright, the blue or black is too dark, and the green area is qualified. The operator can focus on the area where the coating is applied to homogenize the pattern.
